Congratulations to A.B. Miller High
School's Rachel McCoy, 2011 CIF State Girls High Jump Champion.
The 15-year-old sophomore "came almost out of nowhere" to capture the girls
high jump title at the State Championship in Clovis earlier this month, clearing a
PR-equaling 5-8
but just missing the 5-10 height she hit in practice. "I wouldn't have
believed I would've gone this far if someone had paid me to believe it," said
Rachel, who has also been selected as the HS GameTime Girls Track and Field
Athlete of the Year.
Rachel started high jumping only after being won over by basketball as a
freshman. This year, she was named to the Citrus Belt Southern Section
All-League Girls Basketball Team. "I do track for fun," Rachel said.
