FUSD Honors Scholar Athletes for Winter Season
At
their February 16, 2011 meeting, the Fontana Unified School District honored
the Scholar Athletes from each of our five high schools for the winter season. “It's
a great opportunity for us this evening to once
again give tribute to our scholar athletes ,"
said Superintendent Cali Olsen-Binks.
"With the conclusion of the winter athletic season and the spring athletic season near its start, we would like to take this time to recognize the achievements of our
winter sports,"
said Kimberly MacKinney, Director of Secondary Education.
During the fall season, we had 31 varsity teams in seven sports serving 1,096 students in the Fontana Unified School District. Their collective GPA was 2.9 during their sport season with
570 of those students (or 52%) earning above a 3.0,
with 51 of them earning a 4.0.
At Jurupa Hills High School, there were 157 athletes with an overall GPA of 2.9. Their Boys’ and Girls’ Soccer teams
tied for the highest GPA of all their sports at 3.0. At Kaiser
High School, there were 233 athletes with an overall GPA of 2.8. Their Girls’ Basketball team had the highest GPA of all their sports at 3.2. At
A.B. Miller High School, there were 191 athletes with an overall
GPA of 3.0. Their Girls’ Basketball team also had the highest GPA of all their sports at 3.5. At Summit
High School, there were 284 athletes
with an overall GPA of 3.0. Their Pep Squad had the highest GPA of all their sports at 3.2.
A.B. Miller and Summit had the overall
highest GPA for Winter Athletes at 3.0 and Miller’s Girls’ Basketball team had the highest GPA at 3.5.
Each of the three athletic leagues that Fontana schools belong to, recognize the academic achievements of our student athletes through a Scholar Athlete program.
Varsity athletes who earn a 3.5 GPA or higher
during their season of sport are identified as
Scholar Athletes. Tonight we honor 115 Scholar
Athletes. Fortunately, we have several teams
whose season has continued into the CIF
Playoffs. Unfortunately, some of those teams
were playing that evening so those students were
unable to attend the Board Meeting.
