Superior Grocers Donates $10,000 to Fohi

Thanks to Superior Grocers in Fontana, the staff and students at Fontana High School have 10,000 more reasons to smile.
On June 1, 2011, at an impromptu ceremony in the Fontana store's produce aisle, Superior Grocers presented a check for $10,000 to Fontana High School as part of its effort to support education.
"The check from Superior Grocers really came to us via Mayor Acquanetta Warren,"
said Superintendent Cali Olsen-Binks. "We’ve had several people call in the
past and say they’d like to donate to our schools. I’ve sent emails to principals and said ‘Hey, I might have a donor for you
- what’s on your wish list?' But not all of them have come to fruition.
Like a Christmas list for Santa, it just sits on the shelf for another year.
Then the Mayor called and said, 'I think I might have a donor for you and they would
like to donate a significant amount of money.' I didn’t know who the donor was or anything more until last Friday when I got a late night email from the Mayor
that Superior Grocers had come forward."
"We are very appreciative to Superior Grocers for their check for $10,000,"
agreed Principal Lisa Romero. "When the possibility for a donation was posed, I went to classrooms and talked to students and teachers and
asked them, 'What do we really need?' and they pretty much all agreed that what we
really need is instructional technology. So, that’s what this is going to go for:
instructional technology in the classroom."
"I want to thank the Mayor in forging this relationship
between the community and the district," continued Mrs. Olsen-Binks.
