Superintendent's Thanksgiving Message

Dear Fontana Community,

The first part of the 2010-11 school year has gone by quickly and it has been an exciting and eventful time.  Parents have met with their children’s teachers during parent conferences at the beginning of the month.  Our elementary schools have completed their first trimester and our middle and high schools have wrapped-up their first quarter and are half-way through their second.  The elections are over and we welcome two new Board Members on December 8th - Leticia Garcia and Sophia Green, as well as incumbent Gus Hawthorn, and we say goodbye to Laura Abernathy-Mancha and Julie Ramos.  And, the Thanksgiving holiday is just around the corner!

As I reflect on the many things for which I am thankful, I want to take this opportunity to share just a few of them with you:  I am thankful for our students who come to school every day ready to learn – you give us all a daily reminder of what is important and why we are here.  I am thankful for the support of the parents in creating an outstanding partnership for our students.  I am thankful for the teachers, support staff, and administrators who really care about student achievement and have the best interests of our students at heart.  I am also thankful our volunteers who enthusiastically contribute so much to our schools.

But, before Thanksgiving, we will be celebrating the Veteran’s Day Holiday on November 11.  There are many FUSD staff members who have served our country through military service.  And you may have noticed the link at the bottom of our webpage, “Fontana Unified School District Salutes Alumni Serving in the Military.”  Take a few moments to think about these brave service men and women, many who are far away from home.  I am thankful for their willingness to guarantee the freedoms that we sometimes take for granted.  May they come home soon and may they come home safely.

On behalf of the Fontana Unified School District, I would like to wish all of you a happy and relaxing Thanksgiving holiday.  Enjoy!

Best wishes,

Cali Olsen-Binks
Superintendent
