Dear Fontana Community,
It is my pleasure to once again welcome students, parents and staff to a new
school year. And this year, all of our schools begin on the same day, August 9,
2010. The start of a new school year is always very exciting for students, as
well as staff. It is a time of new opportunities and enormous possibilities for
the coming year and beyond. Whether your children are new or returning students
of the Fontana Unified School District, we welcome you to the 2010-11 school
year!
Growth continues to be part of FUSD and this year we are pleased to open our
newest school, Jurupa Hills High School, bringing our total number of campuses
to 44: 29 elementary schools, 7 middle schools, 5 comprehensive high schools, 2
continuation high schools, and 1 adult school. We also have the Fontana
Alternative Learning Center on the Fontana Adult School campus, 29 Preschools on
school site campuses, as well as Tinker Tots and Gateway programs.
Our educational team is excited to work with your children as we continue to
develop ways to improve the quality of education for all students. We are
committed to knowing the needs of your students so that we can take them from
where they are in their learning and assist in moving them to where they need to
be to graduate and become successful life-long learners and citizens. Our
expectation for our students is they will work hard to reach their full
potential and to make great decisions about the life they want to lead. Our goal
is every student that comes through our doors will walk out at the end of their
senior year with a diploma and a pathway to success.
One of the biggest factors in the overall success of our students and our
district will always be our ability to work in partnership with parents and the
community. We hope that you feel welcome in our schools and that you will take
advantage of opportunities to become involved, such as Back to School Night,
Parent Conferences, and many more. I know it is hard for working parents, but I
implore you to find the time, every day, to help your children finish school
assignments, to read, and to take responsibility for learning. Most of all, I
ask parents to praise your child’s accomplishments and teach them the joy in
learning and growing.
Thank you for your ongoing support of our schools. We look forward to continuing
to work with you to provide the children of our district with a solid foundation
on which they can build a bright future.
Have a great school year!
Best Wishes,
Cali Olsen Binks
Superintendent
