At the January 18, 2012 Board
Meeting, the Fontana Unified
School District recognized the
Summit High
School Supreme SkyHawk Marching
Regiment, the 2011-12 Division
III SCJA State Champions.
Summit Principal
Delia Fant introduced Band Director
Jeffrey Lakatos, “Mr. Lakatos is an incredibly talented young man. He has a performance bar that is off the chart but he teaches his kids how to reach it. Clearly they have because they are our State Champs."
Mr. Lakatos told the room full of
supportive parents, siblings,
and friend, "The Marching SkyHawks were undefeated in the 2011 field season, bringing home first place in all six of their competition outings. Their score of 87.5 was not only the highest score earned by a marching program in Summit High School’s history but was good enough to earn them championship status."
"Just to give you an idea of how that day went,"
he continued, "between us in first place and the second place in our division was over a 9 point gap. They were the only school that day in all five divisions to earn first place in all of band, color guard and drum line and bring home all three high caption awards for best overall music, visual and general effect presented that day. Basically, if you took a look at their score sheet, they were the only ensemble that received first place earnings in all captions adjudicated."
Mr. Lakatos gave special
recognition to: Anthony
Chavez - Drum Major, Sabrina
Merrit - Wind Captain, Juan
Villasenor - Brass Captain,
Ricardo Avalos - Drum Captain,
Rogelle Zamora - Pit Captain,
Angella Nwoye - Colorguard
Captain, and Section Leaders
Trajon Felton, Katherine Osorio,
James Walker, and Miguel Osorio.
Superintendent
Cali Olsen-Binks congratulated Marching SkyHawks on behalf of the Board of
Education. "And everybody knows that behind a wonderfully successful band is a great leader and I want to personally thank Mr. Lakatos for all of his hard work and dedication. He's
certainly set the bar high for next year!"
