Speakers Motivate Students at Sequoia

On January 24, 2012, Congressman Joe Baca sponsored a Youth Education Motivation Program (YEMP) conference for the students at Sequoia Middle School.

Congressman Baca gathered a diverse group of educators, civic leaders, and business professionals to talk to students about how education has played a major role in their lives.  The program exposed students to various occupations, encouraged them and helped them understand the connection between continuing their education and their future success.

While middle school students are excited about learning, they haven't necessarily made up their minds about their goals in life or understand how what they are doing and learning in the classroom right now will build the foundation for what they learn in high school and their lives beyond the classroom.

“It was a great success,” said Principal Gorge Santiago. “The students really enjoyed learning about the different career choices that were available to them, and how education was important in achieving their life goals.”
