We are pleased to announce
that at the October 2, 2013 meeting of the FUSD Board of Education, the Board approved Raul Hernandez as the new Principal of
Summit High School.
Mr. Hernandez was born and raised in
Coachella. After graduating from Coachella
Valley High School in 1989, he attended the
University of California, Riverside where he
earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political
Science and Ethnic Studies. He continued
his education at Claremont Graduate University
where he earned a Master of Arts in Education,
as well as a Single-Subject Credential in Social
Studies. Mr. Hernandez is currently in the
dissertation phase of Claremont Graduate Urban
Education Ph.D. Program.
"Serving and working with youth in Greater
Area Riverside Urban League as an “at-risk”
tutor during my undergraduate years naturally
guided me into the profession of teaching and
coaching," said Mr. Hernandez.
He began his teaching career at Riverside Arlington High
School and Coachella Valley High School,
eventually becoming the Dean of Students at his
old Alma Mater. He later served as
Assistant Principal at Desert Mirage High School and Principal of Toro Canyon Middle School.
He began his FUSD career as an
Assistant Principal at Sequoia Middle School and most recently at Kaiser High
"Mr. Hernandez has an extensive background in instruction and curriculum, also in athletics,"
said Dr. David Hatton, Interim Associate Superintendent of Human Resources when he introduced him at the Board Meeting.
"He is familiar with every phase of the high school program."
"I am extremely excited to join the Summit SkyHawk Family,"
said Mr. Hernandez. "I can’t wait to work collaboratively with everyone as we continue to build on our successes. I am committed to working with our SkyHawk students, faculty, staff, and community members in building the high quality co-curricular/extra-curricular programs that our SkyHawk Family have grown accustomed to! We can’t spell SUMMIT without “U”! Go SkyHawks!"
Mr. Hernandez will officially assume his new
post on Monday, October 7, 2013.
