Dear Teachers, Principals, Staff, Families, Students, and Community Members:
I officially began my tenure as the Superintendent of the Fontana Unified School District on November 1, 2013. I am excited, honored, and humbled to lead this great system of schools and I thank the Board of Education for allowing me to serve this amazing community. I am very impressed by what I have learned. There is no question that many of our schools have enjoyed success and served as models for the entire system. However, we still have much work to do to guarantee that we fulfill the core mission: to ensure that every child, in every school has access to a robust learning experience, resulting in graduation from high school—prepared for college and career. To achieve this goal, we must continue to push ourselves to ensure that ALL children have access to high-quality teaching and learning in every classroom, every day.
It will take all of us to improve student learning outcomes, to ensure equitable access to rigorous coursework within our District, to encourage and support our students as they prepare for college and career, and to provide our teachers and school leaders with the support and guidance they need to be successful. I am currently meeting with teachers, principals, staff, students, community leaders, business leaders, parents, and many others to start learning from you—not only about what’s going right, but also about where we have room to grow and improve. In order to accelerate our progress, close the achievement gap, and raise standards as we make the shift to the Common Core State Standards, I will take what I have learned from you to develop and implement with our Board of Education a strategic action plan, which includes specific measures of success.
Thank you in advance for your participation in this process and for the warm welcome I have received. I look forward to continuing our dialogue about improving FUSD and working together to fulfill our promise to our students.
Dr. Leslie Boozer
