SBCSS Multilingual Recognition Awards

SB County Assistant Superintendent Beth Higbee, Susana Maciel, Annel Cardenas, Ivonne Plancarte, SB Director Scott Syphons, and SB County Superintendent Ted Alejandre

Each year, The San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools honors students, parents, para-educators, teachers, administrators and community members for their work with English learners. At the 30th Annual Multilingual Recognition Awards dinner on April 28, representatives from more than 15 school districts were recognized for their work, including three parent volunteers from Fontana Unified: Annel Cardenas, Susana Maciel, and Ivonne Plancarte.

These three outstanding parents volunteer their time, serving on FUSD’s District English Language Advisory Council (DELAC): Annel Cardenas as Parliamentarian, Susana Maciel as Vice President, and Ivonne Plancarte as Secretary.

Fontana Unified School District was one of the 14 districts honored as a Seal of Biliteracy School District, representing 12 languages with a grand total of 2,298 countywide Seals of Biliteracy being awarded to students for the 2016-17 school year. The State Seal of Biliteracy recognizes high school graduates who have attained a high level of proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing in one or more languages, in addition to English.
