Parents As Teachers

Who can be in the program?
Families with children from birth to 5 years old (including teen parents and expectant mothers are eligible to
enroll in the P.A.T. program.
Group meetings at the school site
Group meetings will help parents share experiences and gain new insights into their child's development and
behavior. Meetings will be to discuss topics or participate in activities you and your child can do. During
these meetings you will have the opportunity to get to know other parents in our community with children the
same age as yours.
Home visits occur monthly
The P.A.T. Educators will provide information on what to expect as your child grows so that you observe
your child's accomplishments and appreciate how significant they are. An appropriate activity and a book are
shared during each home visit. Parent handouts about what to look for in your child's development and things
you can do to encourage language and intellectual growth will be provided. Your questions and concerns will be
addressed as well.
Yearly Developmental and Health Screenings
Informal screenings will help you understand your child's development. If your child is experiencing a special
need, resources from the community can be tapped early on.
P.A.T. Educators
P.A.T. Educators have taken specialized training in child development from the Parents As Teachers National
Training Institute Center and have been certified as Parent Educators. The P.A.T. program is available in
English and Spanish.
