Certificated Substitute Hiring

The Fontana Unified School District is continually looking for quality substitute teachers to work with the students in our District.   Each month we process 30-60 applicants for subbing in the District.  This is done through group meetings once or twice a month depending on the time of year.

The candidates must meet these requirements in order to apply for a certificated substitute teaching position:

  • Hold a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or college.  The degree must be posted.

  • Have passing CBEST scores

If you meet these requirements and would like to apply for a substitute position, you will need to follow the procedures as outlined.

  • You must call into the Certificated Human Resources offices to be set up for the next available New Substitute Teacher meeting.  Meetings have been set up for the entire school year.

  • Your name, as well as other information will be asked of you.  You will be given a date and time to attend the orientation meeting.

  • Prior to the meeting, you will be asked to come to Certificated Human Resources, Building 4 at the District Office located at 9680 Citrus Avenue, to pick up a substitute packet.  In addition, please click on the following link to download a Substitute Teacher Application (print out and complete).  One of our Personnel Technicians will be contacting you for verification of your attendance and to review some additional requirements.  Confirmation is mandatory.

  • You will need to read the information in the packet and fill out the appropriate forms.  Bring the packet to your assigned group orientation meeting.

On the meeting day, the certificated credential technicians will meet with you to go over the paperwork and begin the hiring process.

Any questions about the process can be answered by calling (909) 357-5000, extension 7061.
