New Age Requirement for Kindergarten Effective 2012-2013 School Year
Senate Bill (SB)1381 amended California Education Code (Section 46300,48000, and 48010) to change
the required birthday for admission to kindergarten beginning with the 2012-2013 school year. Please
refer to the chart below to see when you can enroll your child in kindergarten (click

The Fontana Unified School District had been planning on implementing a Transitional Kindergarten program for the next school year.
However, given the ongoing budget crisis and contingency on the approval of the State Budget, the District will proceed in the following
manner:

Students that turn 5 on or before September 1 will be enrolled in regular kindergarten.

Students that turn 5 between September 2 and November 1 will be enrolled in regular kindergarten and parents will be notified
that this enrollment is contingent upon the final budget passed by the state legislature.

Students that turn 5 between November 2 and December 2 will submit enrollment documents and be placed on a waiting list to
finalize the enrollment process in a Transitional Kindergarten program at a later date if the legislature passes a budget providing
funding for this program.

Transitional Kindergarten Enrollments
Registration will be held for Transitional Kindergarten during the week of March
26-30, 2012, from 7:30 am to 3:00 pm, at the Enrollment Center.
