2004 County History Day

Fontana students claimed nearly half of the championship titles at the 15th annual San Bernardino County History Day competition held Saturday, March 27, at Fontana A.B. Miller High School.  Thirty-six entries from the county will advance to the state competition, and 16 of those entries are students from the Fontana Unified School District.

About 200 students from 10 school districts submitted more than 100 entries in this year’s countywide competition, sponsored by the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools (SBCSS) and A.B. Miller High School in the Fontana Unified School District.

Students in the junior and senior divisions competed in five categories—exhibits, performances, documentaries, research papers and Web sites—on topics related to this year’s theme of “Exploration, Encounter, Exchange in History.” Elementary students competed in posters. A panel of judges selected two county champions, a first runner-up and second runner-up in each category. Both champions are eligible to represent San Bernardino County in the state competition April 30-May 2 in Sacramento. First and second place winners at the state competition will advance to the national finals to be held June 13-17 at the University of Maryland.
