FUSD Students Display History Day Projects
Winning projects from nearly every school in the Fontana
Unified School District will be on display at the District's History Day Public
Viewing on Saturday, January 27.
The Fontana Unified History Day
event will showcase creative and original products. Individual schools recently
judged entries for competition at the County level. The top entries for students
in grades 4-12 will represent the District in a competition sponsored by the San
Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools where students compete for the
opportunity to advance to state level competition. Fontana Unified has an
impressive track record of outstanding entries in grades 6-12 selected to
represent the State of California at the National History Day competition which
is held annually in Baltimore, Maryland.
History Day is a performance
based academic endeavor that fully supports the California History-Social
Science Framework and History-Social Science Content Standards. History Day is
a long-term project dedicated to improving the teaching and learning of history
in elementary and secondary schools. A major goal of the program is to make
history come alive for students. Through participation students develop
critical thinking and research skills by creating scholarly exhibits,
performances, documentaries, web pages and papers for competitive judging. This
year students are presenting research addressing the National History Day theme,
“Triumph and Tragedy in History.”
Winning student entries will be
available
for public viewing from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., in the multipurpose room at Ruble Middle
School, 6762 Juniper Avenue.
