The
Fontana Unified School District had a great turn out for our District History Day
event at Ruble Middle School on Saturday, February 5.
Hundreds of young historians demonstrated their knowledge of historical people and
events. Eighteen student (five individual projects and four group projects) will move on to
compete in the County competition next month.
This competition engages students in the process
of researching and interpreting a historical topic of their choice related to an
annual theme. Working individually or in small groups, students are
encouraged to find primary and secondary resources on their subject through
research in libraries and museums, interviews, and visits to historic sites. This year, the students completed projects relating to the theme of
"Debate and Diplomacy in History: Successes, Failures, Consequences.
Over the past two decades, many Fontana student have achieved high honors in the
county, state, and national competitions. This year's district
winners will participate in the countywide competition for a chance to represent
the state during the competition to be held in San Jose from April 28-May 1.
National History Day will be held at the University of Maryland from June 12-16.
