Covers the characteristics and processes associated with biological systems.  Students will enhance their skills in laboratory analysis, problem solving, and critical thinking with respect to ethical and environmental concerns in Biology.  Students will be introduced to cell biology, energy transformations, genetics, heredity, evolution, population studies and ecology. Adjustments in curriculum are made to meet the individual needs of students following the Districts Biology Curricula.

This course studies the changes in the Earth’s surface.  Focus is on the forces that cause changes in the weather, sun, planets, stars and oceans.  This is a course that covers the state standards for Earth Science and meets the district Physical Science requirement for graduation.  Adjustments in curriculum are made to meet the individual needs of students

World History and Culture  Applied  0370 and Core  5420

This course will focus on the events of the world from the late sixteenth century through the present time including the cause and course of the two world wars.  Discussion will include the rise of democratic ideas and students will develop and understand historical roots of current world issues.  Students will develop an understanding of the current world issues and relate these issues to their historical, geographic, political, economic and cultural context.  The philosophy and aim of the course is to see how the different events impact the United States and how it applies to responsible citizens and the world as a whole.

U.S. History  Applied  0365  and Core 5430

This course will focus on comparing current event and trends in the United States with historical events, including and following the framing of the U.S. Constitution.  Focus will be on events of the United States from the Thirteenth century to the present including the cause and course of the two World Wars, The Korean Conflict, The Viet Nam War and Desert Storm.  Discussion will include the fight for independence and the writing of the Constitution. Students will develop an understanding of the historical roots of current United States issues and relate these issues to their historical, geographic, political, economic, and cultural context. The philosophy and aim of the course is to see how the different events impact the United States and how it applies to responsible citizens and the world as a whole.

One part of a required two-part course (Government and Economics), which focuses on the philosophy, and practice of the United States government as it applies to responsible citizens and the world of work. This course also focuses on the different branches of Government and how those interactions affect the lives of the American people.

Students deepen their understanding of the economic problems and institutions of the nation.  They learn to make reasoned decisions on economic issues as citizens, workers, consumers, and business. Additionally, the course makes the connection between Government, citizenship, and economics in America.

Enrolled by ability, instruction will support students with needs to raise skills in word analysis, reading comprehension, and literary response as well as written and oral language conventions.  Students will repeat this course in grades 11 and 12 until they have successfully passed the CAHSEE. An elective course designed for students in the 11th grade.  Students will conduct self and career exploration activities, learn employability skills, decision making skills, and problem solving strategies.  Students will listen to guest speakers and participate in job shadowing activities.

Supervised work experience at a job with assignments both on and off campus.  The job must be approved for work experience credit.  The related instruction must be taken concurrently and must meet district work eligibility requirements.  Students must be 16 years old to participate.

Classroom instruction will focus on supporting student in need of extra review and instruction in Math.  Course will include basic computation of integers, percents, and decimals. Course will also include manipulating and solving linear equations. Students will repeat this course in grades 11 and 12 until they have successfully passed the CAHSEE.
