Course Offerings:
Freshman English 3010One Year 9 Meets the University of California “B” requirement Provides a foundation for the study of English composition, grammar conventions and literature. Students will learn how to write clear and concise essays focusing on two of the eight California Assessment Strands. Freshmen English Honors 3011 One Year 9 Meets the University of California “B” requirement Pre-requisite: B grade or better in 8th grade English and recommendation from 8th grade English Teacher. In addition to the regular College Prep English course, this course provides additional experience in literary interpretation and composition. The objective of this course is to prepare students to take Sophomore English Honors. Sophomore English 3020One Year 10 Meets the University of California “B” requirement A second-year English course which continues the study of English composition, grammar conventions and literature. Students will learn how to write clear and concise essays focusing on two of the eight California Assessment Strands. Sophomore English Honors 3021One Year 10 Meets the University of California “B” requirement Pre-requisite: A grade in regular Freshman English and Department Chair approval. A second-year English Honors course which continues the advanced study of English composition, grammar conventions and literature. The objective of this course is to prepare students to take Junior English Honors. Junior English 3030 One Year 11 Meets the University of California “B” requirement A third-year English course which continues the study of English composition, grammar conventions and literature, with an emphasis in American Literature. Student will practice writing clear and concise essays focusing on two strands of the state writing curriculum. Junior English Honors 3031One Year 11 Meets the University of California “B” requirement and receives honors points Pre-requisite: B grade or better in Sophomore Honors or an A grade in regular Sophomore English and Department Chair approval. Summer reading is required. A third-year English Honors course whose objective is to prepare students to take Senior English Literature Advanced Placement. The refinement of writing skills and the interpretation of significant American Literature will be emphasized. Junior English Language Advanced Placement 3033One Year 11 Meets the University of California “B” requirement Pre-requisite: B grade or better in Sophomore English Honors or an A grade in regular Sophomore English and Department Chair approval. Refinement of writing skills and interpretation of significant literature will be emphasized. This course prepares students for the Advanced Placement English Language exam taken in the spring. Senior students may take this academically rigorous course if they satisfy the course prerequisite. Senior English 3040One Year 12 Meets the University of California “B” requirement Includes the study of composition, literature and English conventions, with an emphasis in British Literature. Students will practice writing clear and concise essays and will write a major research paper. (Elective Credit Only)
