Course Offerings:
Business Calculations 6010 One Year 11, 12 This course is designed to enhance the learning and application of mathematical concepts. Students will be instructed in the use of calculators and computers (if available) to facilitate learning in specific mathematical situations. Business Calculations can serve as a genuine tool of management. Math Topics 7012One Semester 11, 12 This course does not receive math credit. Pre-requisite: Student has not passed the CAHSEE A basic math course, which reviews the concepts needed to pass the High School Exit Exam. Students will repeat this course in grades 11 and 12 until they have successfully passed the CAHSEE. (California High School Exit Exam.) (Elective Credit Only) Algebra 1 7030One Year 9, 10, 11, 12 A course designed to provide students with the mathematical background to achieve in various technical areas of study including the sciences. The focus will be the solving of equations, use of formulas, problem solving in applied areas, and interpretation of signed numbers. Plane and Solid Geometry 7050One Year 9, 10, 11, 12 Meets the University of California “C” requirement Pre-requisite: grade of C or better in Algebra 1 Students will be provided with a clear understanding of geometric concepts. It is designed to develop reasoning patterns and processes, to stimulate creative thinking and to prepare the student for more advanced courses in mathematics. Algebra 2 7040One Year 9, 10, 11, 12 Meets the University of California “C” requirement Pre-requisite: grade of C or better in Geometry A full-year course that expands on the content of Algebra 1 and Geometry. Topics to be covered include linear and quadratic equations and their graphs, exponents, radicals, logarithms, systems of equations, and complex numbers. Trig/ Pre-Calculus Honors 7061 One Year 10, 11, 12 Meets the University of California “C” requirement Pre-requisite: grade of C or better in Algebra 2 or Algebra 2 Honors and Department Chair approval. A fourth-year college prep mathematics course, which follows Algebra II. Study includes all areas of Trigonometry/ Pre-Calculus and will involve the regular use of a graphing calculator. Successful completion of this course will prepare students to take Calculus. Statistics and Probability 7300One Year 10, 11, 12 Meets the University of California “C” requirement Pre-requisite: grade of C or better in Algebra 2 and Department Chair approval. An in-depth extension of the principles of probability and statistics. Exploring data, planning a research study, probability theory and statistical inference are the major topics of this course. Calculus Advanced Placement 7073One Year 12 Meets the University of California “C” requirement Pre-requisite: grade of C or better in Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry and Pre-Calculus/Trig and Department Chair approval. A rigorous course, which deals with the relationship between changing variables. Calculus is useful in fields such as business and social services, and is a basic requirement in the natural sciences and engineering. Students will be prepared to take the Calculus Advanced Placement Exam in the spring.
