Live Oak Elementary provides a structured learning environment with a well-balanced educational program that includes all curriculum areas.  Students are expected to work to the best of their abilities.  Our school has a high level of classroom instructional technology, including computers in every classroom with Internet access, instructional software, and printer.  In addition, each classroom is equipped with a Smart Board and digital overhead projector, providing access to big screen visual instructional strategies for all curriculum areas.  Through access to computer technology, our students will become computer literate by having instruction in word processing, keyboarding, and/or various programs reinforcing skills in all academic subject areas.  All students are also encouraged to participate in our Accelerated Reader program to enhance reading skills and increase reading levels in all students.

Grading and Report Cards

Teachers utilize a variety of assessments to report individual academic progress and achievement.  Some of the assessments used include district wide assessments (OARS), curriculum embedded assessments, teacher-developed assessments, California English Language Development Test (CELDT), and the California Standards Test (CST).  Parents should expect a progress report after the end of the first six weeks of each trimester (mid-September, mid-January and end of April).  A report card is sent home at the end of each trimester (every 12 weeks).  The first report card is given to each parent during parent conferences.  At this time, parents are notified if students are at risk of retention due to low academic performance.
