Dear Live Oak Parents,

We are already in our second month of school and progress reports are already coming up in mid September. It is extremely important that you review your child’s report and discuss this progress with your child. If your child is doing well, take the opportunity to congratulate them for their achievements. If your child is not doing so well, motivate them to improve by developing a plan for improvement that may include:

• Limiting or eliminating TV, video, computer, and/or play time
•  Having a specific time and place to do homework
•  Keeping track of school work and assignments
•  Having a specific time and place for daily reading of no less than 30 minutes a day
•  Improving work habits in class and at home
•  Communicating with teacher about weekly progress

If your child has been retained and the progress report is not positive, you need to inform the principal and meet with the classroom teacher to discuss interventions. It is essential that your child improve grades by report card time at the end of October. During the first week of November, teachers will set up conference times to inform you of your child’s progress on the first trimester of school. Students not performing at grade level may require additional interventions. Teachers may also explain that a child not performing at grade level may be considered for retention at the end of the year, unless significant progress is made by the third trimester.
