School Rules
The behavior policies of Live Oak Elementary School are designed
to ensure that each student has the opportunity to learn in a safe
and secure environment. Our aim is to develop responsibility,
citizenship, and respect for others.
Each teacher has a classroom behavior policy and an appropriate
reinforcement system. This policy will be communicated to parents at
the beginning of the year at Back-to-School Night.
The school-wide behavior policy emphasizes positive campus
behaviors and eliminates those behaviors that are unsafe and/or
disruptive. To achieve these goals, the following school rules have
been established:
- Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
- Take care of and protect our school.
- Show respect for others. Play Safe! Play Fair!
- Know and follow all the rules.
Failure to follow the rules may result in a warning, a recess
detention, an office referral, a school suspension, and in extreme
cases a school expulsion. A Reason for Suspension list is given to
each student and parent at the beginning of the year in the “Annual
Notices to Parents” handbook.
Detention
School personnel may give a student a detention for any of the
following reasons:
- Defiance or not following directions
- Not keeping hands, feet and objects to themselves
- Throwing rocks or any other items
- Unsafe play (misuse of equipment, climbing fences, etc.)
- In unauthorized areas
- Failure to line up at the bell
- Being disrespectful (yelling, calling names, etc.)
- Threats or Fighting
- Violation of cafeteria rules, or other violations
Based on the severity of the behavior, the school administrator,
teachers or noon aides may counsel the student, assign a detention
or send the student to the office with an office referral.
Office Referral Policy and Suspension
School personnel will write an Office Referral for the following
unsatisfactory conduct to students:
- Failure to follow directions or violation of school or class
rules
- Class disruption
- Disrespect or defiance of authority
- Leaving class without permission
- Destruction of School or Private Property
- Fighting
- Theft or tampering with property of others
- Threats or highly inappropriate comments
- Profanity or offensive language
- Possession of an inappropriate item
- Excessive absences or tardiness
- Use/possession of a controlled substance
Actions and recommendations will be taken by the Principal or
designee. A child may be suspended based on the severity or the
frequency of the act committed. A student may be suspended after
accumulating three office referrals. Students will contact their
parents to inform them of their misbehavior.
Playground Rules
- Use playground equipment properly (swings, slides, monkey
bars, rings, crossbars).
- Follow games rules (tetherball, handball, basketball,
soccer, etc.)
- Tackling, tag, and wrestling or rough play are not allowed.
- Red balls are for bouncing and throwing only.
- Bouncing balls against the buildings is prohibited except in
designated areas for handball.

signals the end of recess.
- Line up silently as soon as the bell rings. Running,
throwing or bouncing of balls, or getting drinks after the bell
rings is not permitted.
- Walk on all concrete and asphalt areas. No running allowed
in these areas.
- Show respect for people and property through language and
behavior.
- Resolve your own minor conflicts whenever possible before
requesting help from the school staff. Student Conflict managers
are available during recess to assist in resolving conflicts.
Steps to use: stop and think; talk honestly; listen and discuss;
or ignore the situation.
- Walk quietly around classroom areas.
- Knocking on doors to offer help to teachers is disruptive
and not allowed unless you have made previous arrangements with
the teacher.

be notified. School breakfast and lunches are available at NO COST
to our students. Children are also welcome to bring sack lunches
from home. Water and juice may be purchased for 30 cents. We do
discourage the bringing of soda cans and Hot Cheetos to school.
Breakfast is served from 8:05 a.m. – 8:15 a.m. at no cost to our
students. Parents are not allowed inside the lunch room during lunch

Items not Permitted at School
Certain items are not permitted at school because either the law
prohibits it, or district or school policy dictates it.
Please assure that the following items are
not in your child’s possession:

Cell Phones
Students are allowed to carry cellular phones but may only be
used before or after school. Students must keep
phones off at all times during class. A misuse or a
disturbance caused by such devices will result in confiscation and
possible disciplinary action. The object will be returned to a
parent or guardian. The school is not responsible for locating,
repairing or replacing such device. Parents and students are
responsible for the loss or misuse of cell phones.
Students' Personal Belongings
Children like to bring personal belongings to school. It is
highly recommended that the children not bring items of great
personal value. Personal toys are not permitted. If your child’s
teacher gives permission, toys can be brought for “in classroom”
activities only. The school is not responsible
for the loss of any personal items brought to the school.
Placing your child’s name in his/her clothing is a good way to
assure easy identification and proof that a specific item belongs to
your child. It is advisable to mark any school materials of personal
nature: school bags, notebooks, rulers, jackets, and sweaters.
Students missing clothing items should check the Lost and Found rack
outside the office.
Student Materials (Library Items)
Students are required to take care of school textbooks and
materials. Students and parents are allowed to
take student textbooks home to enhance the educational process and
to assist with homework, but they must have teacher permission and
must bring the textbooks back every day. Parents and students
are responsible to fix or replace damaged or lost materials.

- Bicycles must be locked into the rack with a chain when the
student arrives at school.
- Failure to follow safety rules will result in loss of
bicycle riding privileges.
- Scooters, skateboards, rollerblades, roller skates, shoes
with wheels are not allowed on campus.
