Dear Families,
An API of 850 or higher.
I hope you are enjoying your time off. Once we return our students
in grades 2-5 will be getting ready to take the California Standards
Test (CST). To help us reach our goal, here are some steps you can
take to help your students get ready:
- Have your child read at least one hour every day. After they read,
ask them to tell you about what they read, or have them write a
summary of what they read.
- Make sure your children know their multiplication facts (out of
order). If you show them a problem (for example 3 x 7) they should
provide the answer in less than three seconds. Grades 3-5 need to be
able to multiply multiple digits (357x32).
- Review with your child the difference between an atlas, thesaurus,
dictionary, and encyclopedia.
- Have fun and measure things around the house. See if your child
knows how to calculate area and perimeter (grades 3-5).
- Review addition and subtraction with your child and review
regrouping (287-39).
- Set some goals with your children. For example, establish a daily
fluency goal (the amount of words they read in under a minute).
- Take 5 minutes to have a conversation with your child.
These are just a couple of steps you can take to help your child get
ready. However, the most important thing you can do is make sure
your children are in school everyday, the whole day and on time! If
you do, we can reach our goal of 850 or higher!
Until next time,
Gorge Santiago
