Programs at Oleander Elementary School
At
Oleander, we strive to meet the needs of each student. Teachers
are consistently reviewing data to provide instruction at their
students’ levels. At times, students may need additional support. Here are some extra programs that we provide our students.
Read 180: This is a scientifically researched program for students
who are two years behind in their reading. Students attend this
program for 90 minutes four days a week. The program begins with the
teacher instructing the students on a strategy in whole group, and
then the students go to three groups:
- Small Group Direct Instruction: The teacher works closely with
students so that individual needs can be met.
- Read 180 Software: Students use the Read 180 Software independently,
providing them with intensive individualized skills practice.
- Modeled and Independent Reading: Students build fluency and reading
comprehension skills through modeled and independent reading of the
Read 180 Paperbacks and Audiobooks.
Study Island: Students in grades 1-5 have the opportunity to work on
this Web Based Program that is tied to state and grade level
standards. Students are able to develop and understanding of the
testing language. Students can access this program at home or the
library.
Accelerated Reader: Students are encouraged to read books at their
instructional level. This in school program encourages students to
read. Once they have read the book, they have the opportunity to
take a quiz to check their comprehension. As they pass books, they
accumulate points which can be redeemed for prizes.
Accelerated Math: This program allows the teacher to differentiate
his/her math instruction for each student. Because the program looks
at how each student is meeting the standards at their grade level,
students work on the objectives they are struggling with the most. Once they have mastered the objective, they are able to complete
other objectives.
Before/After School Tutoring: Based on funding, students are
identified who need additional support in Language Arts or Math. Students are grouped based upon their needs to receive this extended
day opportunity which focus on Reading Comprehension, Word Analysis,
Vocabulary, Number Sense and Measurement and Geometry.
