Campus Safety
FUSD SCHOOL POLICE
(909) 357-5000, ext. 7020
Children should be encouraged to practice good safety habits.
Safety instruction is given at school and safety measures are
practiced in the building and on the playground. You can help
your child develop good safety habits by providing safety
instruction at home.
- Enter and exit the school through the front gates outside the office or
by the Kindergarten playground only. FOR THE SAFETY OF ALL OUR
STUDENTS, PLEASE DO NOT DROP OR PICK UP YOUR CHILD ACROSS THE STREET ON
OLEANDER AVENUE.
- Assist your child in learning the safest route to and from school, and
remind them to walk in pairs or groups—NEVER ALONE.
- Encourage your child to use the crosswalk at the intersections when
he/she is crossing the street and to stay between the crosswalk lines.
Students MUST obey the crossing guards located at the corners of Arrow and
Oleander and Valencia and Oleander. It is the child’s responsibility
to make certain that traffic from both directions has stopped when crossing
at the corner of Orangeway and Oleander.
- Your child should obey traffic lights and look both ways before crossing
a street.
- Encourage your child to come home immediately after school.
Discourage any stops along the way to and from school. Some children,
suddenly, decide to go to a friend’s house after school, or the liquor store
without the parents’ knowledge. This creates and unnecessary concern
where school police and city police may be called to assist in finding the
student.
- Kindergarten: For those kindergarten children riding a bus it is
important that a name tag be attached to the child’s clothing at least for
the first 4 days of school.
- Bus riders must obey all bus rules and follow all rules and expectations
at the bus stop.
- All students should memorize their home phone numbers and parents’ cell
phone numbers.
- Cars are not to park in front of the school as this is a pick up and
drop off zone. Parking in this area may subject you to a ticket.
Also, you are not to pick up students in front of the driveway gate.
You must wait till you are by the curb.
Remind your child to:
- Never accept rides or gifts from strangers. Do not assist a stranger in
finding a lost dog or animal. Do not go with them, follow them or get in
their car.
- Report to a teacher, a police officer, a bus driver, or to you any
suspicious activity or strangers seen loitering on foot or in a car near the
school, playgrounds, etc.
- Always try to secure the license number of the car and write it down.
- Always try to remember what the stranger looked like and how he/she was
dressed.
- Contact a police officer any time needs help.
Arrival and Departure Procedures
Students should not arrive before 8:15 am, unless they are participating in a
before school intervention program.
- Breakfast is served in the cafeteria at 8:10 am for all students that
may want to eat breakfast at school.
- Please do not double park or block other cars while waiting to pick up
your children.
Visitors
Adults may visit the school whether they have a child enrolled or not AS LONG
AS THEY HAVE LEGITIMATE BUSINESS ON CAMPUS AND HAVE PERMISSION FROM THE OFFICE
AND THE PERSON BEING VISITED. If necessary, an administrator or designee
will accompany the visitor. If an adult visitor becomes disruptive,
disrespectful, or dangerous in any way, alert the office and request help. A ll
visitors must check into the office before going to the classroom and all must
have a visitor's pass. You do not allow a parent into your room if they do
not have a Visitor's Pass. Call the office for assistance if there is a problem.
Campus Security - By Video
Our campus is monitored by security video. This is to ensure the safety
of all students here at Oleander.
Early Dismissal
We discourage you from picking up your child early from school, as this has a
negative impact on their academic achievement. In the event you or someone
on your emergency list must pick up your child early, they must provide us with
an identification, and must be on the emergency list. Furthermore, only
individuals 18 and older are allowed to pick up your children.
Late Sign-in
Students in grades K-2 who are not picked up by 3:20 pm (5 minutes after the
bell rings), will be signed into the office. A parent or an individual who
is 18 years or older will be required to pick them up and provide a photo ID.
For student safety, we will not dismiss any student after 3:00 pm (on M, W,
Th & Fri) and 12:30 pm (on Tuesdays). During the end of the day, teachers
are handing homework, wrapping up the days learning events, and reviewing
important information.
