Community Based English Tutoring (CBET) is a program that provides English
Language instruction to parents and members of the community who pledge to
provide English Language tutoring to students who are designated English
Language Learners (ELL). The program is funded by the California
Department of Education based on the number of ELL students reported by the
district.

We believe parents are the most important teachers in their child's life.
We are committed to equipping parents with the necessary skills and confidence
to effectively contribute to their child's education
Who May Participate
The primary participants are parents of our district's children who are
designated English Language Learners. The intent is to help adults who
will tutor their children as they learn English.
Current Classes
CBET Classes are designed to teach parents Basic English and terminology used in
our school system. Class meetings are tailored to accommodate parents'
busy schedules. They are conveniently offered biweekly both mornings and
evenings throughout the FUSD schools. Free babysitting services are
provided for children three and older. Classes are taught by a
certificated teacher.

The focus of each course is on English language development. Additional
topics include:

Communication skills

Practical language usage

Basic computer applications and technology
Classes are offered at many school sites in the Fontana Unified School District.
