At Juniper Elementary School, our purpose is to raise student achievement through academic standards based goals.  The school, family and community collaborate to support the students' learning.

Educators adjust programs to students' needs to show and measure growth using assessments, analyzing data, and providing interventions for students not meeting goals.  The learning community will foster students' academic, social, and emotional needs.

Ms. Rivera and I want to welcome you to Juniper Elementary School.  We are located at the corner of Miller and Juniper in Fontana, California.  Juniper serves approximately 900 preschool to fifth grade students.

Academics are a priority at Juniper, and it’s our belief that all students can learn.  Our teachers are highly trained and qualified to meet the needs of our diverse student population.  Teachers are instructing students with state adopted curriculum.  Juniper utilizes Open Court Language Arts and Scott Foresman Mathematics.  We’ve found that with relentless focus on the California State Standards, our students succeed.  Assessment is a critical component of our instructional program, and assessment data is regularly gathered and used to direct instruction in every classroom.

Respecting diversity is a key framework for programs and curriculum at Juniper.  Drawing on our students’ various ethnicities and cultural heritages provides our staff with unique opportunities to incorporate many different cultures and backgrounds in the curriculum.

Students at Juniper encounter a rich school environment enhanced by several extracurricular programs.  Students have library and computer at least once a week.  In addition 4th and 5th grade students have music and science enrichment once a week.  All students have the opportunity to participate in Accelerated Reader and Success Maker throughout the week.

Juniper appreciates your interest in our school and welcomes your comments.  Please contact me by e-mail at thomam@fusd.net.

Sincerely,

Adele Thomas, Principal

Juniper Elementary School is one of twenty-nine elementary schools in the Fontana Unified School District.  It is a single-track, year-round school with approximately 660 students in preschool through grade five.  Over the past several years our student population has changed rapidly, and today Juniper Elementary School is a rich mixture of 87.2% Hispanic, 5.3% African-American, 4.9% Caucasian, 1.5% Other ethnic backgrounds and 1.1% Multiple or No Response.  The proportion of children who speak English as a second language (35%) is increasing, with 235 students who require primary language support to be successful. Juniper is fortunate to have parents who are involved in the education of their children through volunteering in classrooms and participating in the School Site Council, Bilingual Advisory Committee and the Parent Teacher Association. The Mission of the school as adopted by the entire staff (teachers, administrators, classified, Site Council, etc.) is: Juniper School will create a nurturing, positive, stimulating learning environment that will enable students to develop their fullest potential into productive, responsible citizens. In its efforts to achieve this Mission the school works closely with several community groups, the Fontana Teachers Association, the City of Fontana Parks and Recreations and Performing Arts Center), Fontana Police and Fire Departments, Merrill Community Services, Sizzler Restaurant, McDonald's and Life Touch Studios.
