Important News for 2008-09 School Year

Beginning with the 2008-09 school year, all high schools in the Fontana Unified School District will start school in August.  A.B. Miller, Fontana, Kaiser, Summit, Birch and Citrus High Schools will all start school on August 11, 2008, and end on June 1, 2009.  The District wants you to know about this change now, so you can plan for summer vacations and activities in 2008.

By starting school on August 11, 2008:

  • Students will have one full week off at Thanksgiving (November 24-28, 2008)
  • Winter Break will be three weeks (December 22, 2008 to January 9, 2009)
  • There will be more instructional days before State and AP Testing
  • First semester ends the last day of school before Winter Break

A.B. Miller High School will always strive for excellence in academics and all other extra curricular activities. The greatest factor in students' success at school is their knowing that parents and teachers are communicating and working together. The staff at A.B. Miller believe that:

  • Effective classrooms are managed with the best interest of the child in mind
  • We must provide a multifaceted approach to career oriented education

 School Description

A.B. Miller High School is one of four comprehensive high school in the Fontana Unified School District.  At this time we have a total enrollment of approximately 3465 students.  The student population is a rich mixture of 72.1% Hispanic, 12.4% White/Non-Hispanic, 12.3% of African American, 1.3% Asian, and 1.9% Other ethnic backgrounds.  The mission of the school as developed by the entire staff is: To enhance self-esteem and to establish choice and opportunity for all students through involvement in career pathways. In its effort to achieve this mission, the staff at A.B. Miller is driven by a common set of goals.

A thinking, meaning-centered curriculum becomes more than just rhetoric as teachers begin to match theory with practice.

  • Integrated curriculum, instruction and assessment will enhance personal meaning and learning for all students
  • Faculty, students, and parents will be partners in preparing students for successful transition to work and adult life in student success-oriented cultures
  • Faculty will identify students who are at risk and intervene to maximize cognitive and affective outcomes
