The purpose of summer school is to provide
students with opportunities to meet established standards and graduation
requirements. Summer school will focus on three areas:
Credit Recovery
This is an opportunity for students who have failed to earn needed credits the
chance to recover them.
Skills Enhancement
Students will be afforded the chance to improve specific skill areas such as
math and reading.
Advanced Credit
This is an opportunity for students to take courses early in order to allow more
advanced coursework or elective opportunities during the coming year. The
offerings for advanced credit are limited to students who have passed all their
classes successfully. Advanced credit classes may include: Senior
English, Economics, American Government, U.S. History, World History, Biology,
and some elective classes. Enrollment for advanced credit courses is
being handled through the counselors depending upon teacher availability.
Things to Know
| 1. |
Summer School is a
privilege. Violations of school and classroom rules will not be
tolerated. A violtion of school or classroom rules will result in the
student being dropped from the current session.
|
| 2. |
Summer School
classes are conducted at a faster pace. This does not mean that
important material is left out of the class. Success in the summer
school program will depend on a student's ability to work independently, so
expect to do as much or more homework than the regular school year.
|
| 3. |
All students must
have their A.B. Miller IDs with them while on campus. Any student who does
not will be dropped from summer school after their first warning. |
Attendance
Attendance is mandatory and strictly enforced. Students are allowed only 1
absence per 3 week session. Students with 2 absences will be dropped from
the current session. No exceptions.
Students who are late to class will be marked
tardy. Three tardies is equal to 1 absence. It is very important
that your child is at school on time.
Dress Code
When sending your child to summer school, please remember that the regular
dress code is still in effect. Common dress code issues are improper
shirts (i.e. spaghetti straps or bare midriffs), improper shoes (i.e. sandals
without a heel strap) and shorts and mini skirts that are too short. If
your child is out of dress code, they will be brought to the office and sent
home. The time they miss from class will count towards an absence.
