 Mission Statement

"At Alder Middle School, we envision a positive learning environment strengthened by the partnership of community, parents, administrators, teachers and, above all, students."

 School Description

Alder Middle School is one of the seven middle schools in the Fontana Unified School District. It currently has a population of approximately 1237 students in grades 6-8. The students come from diverse backgrounds, including 78.84% Hispanic, 11.23% African-American, 8.19% White/Non-Hispanic, and 1.74% other ethnic backgrounds.

Alder is participating in the Immediate Intervention Underperforming School Program (IIUSP), under the Public Schools Accountability Act (PSAA), and is working to improve school academic performance under an IIUSP grant award. Alder voluntarily applied for the program in the fall of 1999, and was one of 430 schools selected state wide. Our target areas of improvement include:

Academic Objectives to:

  • Improve Student Learning in Math
  • Improve Student Learning in Language Arts
  • Improve Student Learning in Reading and Comprehension
Other Objectives to:
  • Increase Parent / Guardian Involvement
  • Improve the School Environment

Under this plan, Alder has two years to improve instruction and meet the state academic growth expectations of 5% each year. The state provides grant funding to support the improvement process, and all members of the school community are invited to assist in the achievement of a more effective school environment for all our students. Copies of the plan are available, on request, in the school office.
