A Message From Our Principal
Dear DHIA Families,
We have begun our second semester of the 2020-2021 school year. I want to thank you for your support during these unprecedented times. It has been because of your support to your child’s education that our scholars have been participating in their Distance Learning classes and have read over 54 MILLION WORDS this year. We already have six scholars who have read over ONE MILION words each. GREAT JOB! Our scholars have achieved this even with many libraries closed. Thank you again!
Our teachers have also been working diligently to provide a world class education. They have attended professional development, prepared and taught IB units, participated in Learning Walks with our CABE partners, and we are preparing to attend GLAD training to improve our practice for our scholars. As I write this, we are also preparing for our upcoming ELPAC testing for our English Learners. A parent notification letter will be sent to all parents whose children will be participating in this exam. Our state testing will also begin soon for our scholars in grades 3-6. We will also be sending out more information on this soon.
Our Food Services department will continue to provide Grab and Go Meals every Wednesday at DHIA from 9:00-11:00.
This week kicks off our participation in this year’s Great Kindness Challenge. Many of you have already dropped off Links of Love. These Links of Love will be used by the organization Kids for Peace to break a Guinness World Record for the longest recycled paper chain with messages of love and hope. You can also participate in acts of kindness and share your pictures with us on our Facebook page and use #GreatKindnessChallenge. We look forward to seeing your acts of kindness.
We now have a new PTO Board and look forward to the many events we have planned for the remainder of this school year. Although this is an unconventional year, we are committed to making this year just as memorable for our scholars and our families.
Thank YOU again,
