A Message From Our Superintendent
Dear Fontana Unified Families,
We are happy to report that the first two weeks of our phased-in approach to returning to in-person instruction have been very successful. Our transitional kindergarten through second-grade students returned to in-person instruction at our schools the week of April 5, with our third through fifth-graders joining them the week of April 12.
At our April 14, 2021 board meeting, Our Board of Education continued the phased-in approach of bringing back students by giving their approval for the return of sixth-grade elementary students to campus beginning the week of April 26. These students will return in the same two full days per week hybrid schedule that the TK-5th grade students have successfully commenced. Families who do not wish to have their sixth-grade students return to in-person instruction have the option to remain on distance learning for the remainder of the year.
The Board of Education has also approved middle school and high school students' return beginning Monday, May 3, 2021.
Middle school students opting to return to in-person instruction will attend 3 class periods per day on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. High School students opting to return to in-person instruction will attend all 4 class periods on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Wednesdays will remain a distance learning day with wellness and attendance check-ins.
If you have any questions regarding your student's return to in-person instruction, please feel free to contact your school directly or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We believe that having students return to in-person instruction is most beneficial to their academic success and emotional well-being. We are thrilled to begin welcoming students back to our campuses. We will continue to provide in-person opportunities as the COVID-19 numbers in our community continue to improve.
Superintendent of Schools
