Admissions and Enrollment
Admission Requirements and Procedures
To be enrolled with the Virtual Learning Program (VLP) a student and parent/guardian (if under 18) must complete the online application located on the District website. Once this is completed, an on-boarding process begins. This consists of a completed referral by District or school administration, attending an enrollment orientation meeting, and signing a Master Agreement. If a student has an IEP/504 Plan, and completes the on-boarding process, he/she will be given an interim agreement, and a meeting will be held within 30 days of entering in the program to determine the appropriateness of their attendance within the VLP program. Students will remain a part of their home school while attending VLP, having access to all extra-curricular activities, including but not limited to athletics, electives, specialty courses, dances, pep rallies, etc. In addition, this program is completely voluntary, and a parent can request to go back to in-person instruction at any point.
Enrollment Criteria
All VLP students, once enrolled, are enrolled for more than 15 days of the school year. A VLP student should meet the following criteria to be a successful student in the virtual setting:
-
Student is in good academic standing with a 2.0 or higher
-
Student is at or near grade level for reading and basic math skills
-
Student is an independent/self-motivated learner
-
Student is in good standing for attendance
-
Student has a dedicated support system at home to be part of their educational progress
-
Families are dedicated to on-going communication about student participation and success
-
Student must be able to obtain materials and supplies that are provided by the district 4 times a year (once per academic quarter)
-
Student must reside within the FUSD boundaries or have completed the INTER-District transfer process
If a student is not meeting an area of enrollment criteria a student may be provided, based on district or school administration referral, a tiered intervention plan, along with a conditional enrollment and a 30-day review meeting to review if the student can maintain adequate progress to remain in the VLP program.
Referral and On-Boarding Process
To be considered for admission into VLP, students/parents must go through a referral process. Students who are enrolling new into the District can request information from the enrollment center administrator or support personnel. After consultation with enrollment personnel, and student/parent determines they would like additional information, a referral process will be made to the Online Learning & Alternative Programs Department for an additional intake meeting.
If the student is already enrolled within FUSD, student/parent must complete the online registration through the District website at www.fusd.net/VLP. Once complete, VLP representatives will reach out to the school of attendance to verify the student’s current educational progress, and if the student is a qualified candidate for the program. Once the information is reviewed, VLP will reach out to the family to inform them of the intake outcome and the next steps, if the student is moving forward in the enrollment process. Next steps include attending an orientation meeting and completing the Master Agreement. If a student needs an intervention plan upon enrollment, that must also be completed. If any part of the on-boarding process is not complete, the student must remain in their current educational setting until the process is complete.
