Welcome to the Department of Child Welfare and Attendance

At the Department of Child Welfare and Attendance, we are dedicated to ensuring the well-being and academic success of every student within our school district. Our mission is to work with all stakeholders to create supportive environments that foster growth, learning, and resilience.

Areas of Work:

  • Attendance Support: Providing guidance on monitoring student attendance and responding to chronic absenteeism to identify patterns and intervene early to address barriers to regular school attendance.
  • Community Collaboration: Partnering with local organizations to provide additional resources and support to our students and their families
  • Disciplinary Support: Assisting schools in managing other means of correction, suspensions, expulsions and reinstatements by providing guidance on reintegration plans to support students' return to school.
  • Education Code Guidance: Offering guidance and training to school staff on compliance with education codes, including attendance laws, student discipline, and safety regulations.
  • Family Engagement: Collaborating with families to support their children's education and well-being, offering workshops and resources to strengthen family-school partnerships.
  • Professional Development: Training school staff on best practices for student support and engagement.
  • School Site Partnerships: Teaming with school sites to implement programs and initiatives that promote a positive and inclusive school culture.
  • Support for At-Promise Students: Supporting system-involved youth experiencing difficulty in facing personal, social, or academic challenges by providing links to resources.
  • Transfer Coordination: Working with school sites to facilitate student transfers, ensuring that students receive consistent support and resources during their transition.
