Career Technical Education (CTE) Pathways

Fontana Unified School District's Career Technical Education pathways immerse students in hands-on, project-based, and work-based learning experiences that build academic knowledge, real-world skills, and industry-recognized certifications essential for college, career, and lifelong learning. These two-year, sequential, standards-based programs, some of which offer a third-year Work-Based Learning (WBL) elective, prepare students for postsecondary education or direct entry into the workforce.

Career Technical Student Organizations - CTSOs support students enrolled in Career Technical Education (CTE) programs. These organizations help students develop leadership, technical, and interpersonal skills through competitions, conferences, and hands-on learning experiences. These organizations are integral to CTE programs, offering students opportunities to apply classroom knowledge in real-world contexts, build leadership skills, and prepare for both college and careers.

FUSD participates in the following CTSOs:

California Educational Theatre Association (CETA) - Supports and represents theatre educators throughout the state with its innovative programs and activities for theatre teachers, artists, and students.
California HOSA – Future Health Professionals – Supports students pursuing careers in the health sciences.
California SkillsUSA – Serves students preparing for careers in trade, technical, and skilled service occupations.
CIE (Design Build) - The Construction Industry Education Foundation develops construction, design, and trade professionals through educational endeavors, mentoring initiatives, and training activities.

The Alliance for Education partners with 33 San Bernardino County school districts to strengthen the school-to-career pipeline. Our annual regional competitions challenge CTE students in the East Valley and West End to apply their skills in real-world, high-energy events. Judged by top industry professionals, these competitions highlight student talent, build confidence, and create direct connections to careers in fields like culinary arts, public safety, healthcare, and more. By combining hands-on experience with expert feedback, we’re preparing students to thrive in the workforce and shaping tomorrow’s leaders across the Inland Empire.

Pre-Apprenticeships

Pre-Apprenticeships (IEConnect) - The San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools is registered with the State of California to sponsor pre-apprenticeships for high schools in the Inland Empire. Pre-apprenticeship programs are designed to prepare individuals to enter and succeed in a Registered Apprenticeship or other high-quality apprenticeship programs, and ultimately a career. For high schools, the programs can and should integrate directly into the existing CTE curriculum and structure. High-quality pre-apprenticeship programs link directly to existing apprenticeship programs and provide the instruction, preparation, and supports to advance participants to apprenticeship programs or careers.
