FUSD provides a range of Early Education Programs tailored to meet each child’s individual needs. These programs focus on physical, cognitive, and social-emotional development and include:

State Preschool

The California State Preschool Program (CSPP) offers free, part-day preschool education for eligible three- and four-year-old children at 25 elementary schools across Fontana.

2024-2025 Eligibility by Birthdate

The Fontana Unified School District offers several early learning programs for the 2024-2025 school year. Eligibility for each program is primarily determined by the child's birthdate. Below is a breakdown of the available programs and their respective birthdate ranges:

3-Year-Old Preschool Program (PS3):

Birthdate Range: September 2, 2020 – December 1, 2021
Note: Children who turn 3 on or after December 2, 2021, must wait until their 3rd birthday to begin.
Additional Requirement: Eligibility for the Subsidized Childcare Program is required.

4-Year-Old Pre-Kindergarten (PK4):

Birthdate Range: September 2, 2019 – September 1, 2020
Additional Requirement: Eligibility for the Subsidized Childcare Program is required.

Transitional Kindergarten (TK):

Birthdate Range: September 2, 2019 – June 2, 2020

Kindergarten:

Birthdate Range: September 2, 2018 – September 1, 2019

State Preschool Age Eligibility

Eligibility Criteria for State Preschool

There are different eligibility criteria for families to participate in the California State Preschool Program. A family needs to be eligible in ONE criterion. Criteria include:

1. Household Income & Family Size Eligibility

Child will have their 3rd or 4th birthday on or before December 1 of the fiscal year they are being served or a child whose 5th birthday occurs after September 1 of the fiscal year they are being served and whose parent or guardian has opted to retain and enroll them in a California State Preschool Program.

2. 80% or Greater Free and Reduced Lunch Elementary School Eligibility

Child will have their 4th birthday on or before December 1 of the fiscal year they are being served or a child whose 5th birthday occurs after September 1 of the fiscal year they are being served and whose parent or guardian has opted to retain and enroll them in a California State Preschool Program.
Family must live in one of the following school boundaries: Almond, Beech, Citrus, Cypress, Date, Juniper, Live Oak, Locust, Maple, N. Tamarind, Oleander, Palmetto, Poplar, Porter, Randall-Pepper, and S. Tamarind

3. Student has an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Eligibility

*Students will be enrolled in priority order established by CDE guidelines

MMR	1 dose on or after first birthday IS REQUIRED
1 HIB	1 HIB on or after the first IS REQUIRED, regardless of any HIB doses given before the first birthday until 5 years old
HEP B	3 doses required
Varicela	1 dose required/unless child has had verified disease
PPD	A TB clearance. MUST HAVE AT THE TIME OF ENROLLMENT.
