AVID
Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is a nationally recognized college‑readiness system designed to prepare all students for success in college, career pathways, and life. The program focuses on closing opportunity gaps by providing students with the skills, strategies, and support needed to thrive in rigorous academic environments.
AVID in Fontana Unified School District
Fontana Unified School District implements AVID across all comprehensive middle schools and high schools, ensuring that students throughout the district have access to high‑quality college‑readiness instruction. AVID is embedded into schoolwide practices, elective courses, and academic supports, creating a consistent and aligned approach to preparing students for post‑secondary success. We currently have two school sites with National Demonstration designation and one school site, Fontana High School, which was recognized as a Global Achievement Award Winner for Site Team of the Year (2025).
The District Office provides leadership, professional development, and program oversight to ensure fidelity to the AVID College & Career Readiness Framework and to support continuous improvement across all sites.
