International Baccalaureate (IB)
A Global Framework for High‑Quality, Inquiry‑Driven Learning
The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a globally recognized educational framework designed to develop internationally minded, academically prepared, and socially responsible learners. IB programs emphasize inquiry, critical thinking, cultural understanding, and real‑world application of knowledge. Students in IB programs learn to take ownership of their learning, engage in meaningful reflection, and develop the skills needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
Fontana Unified School District is proud to offer the full IB continuum across three schools, providing students with a seamless, high‑quality IB experience from elementary through high school.
IB in Fontana Unified School District
FUSD offers three distinct IB programs, each aligned to a specific grade span and developmental stage:
Primary Years Programme (PYP) - Dolores Huerta International Academy
The PYP serves students in transitional kindergarten through grade 5. It focuses on developing the whole child through transdisciplinary learning, inquiry‑based instruction, and global awareness. Students explore big ideas across subject areas and learn to ask questions, investigate, and reflect on their learning.
Middle Years Programme (MYP) - Southridge Tech Middle School
The MYP supports students in grades 6–8 by building strong academic foundations, interdisciplinary thinking, and real‑world problem‑solving skills. Students engage in project‑based learning, develop personal and academic goals, and strengthen their ability to think critically and communicate effectively.
Diploma Programme (DP) - Jurupa Hills High School
The DP is a rigorous, college‑level program for students in grades 11–12. It includes advanced coursework, research, community engagement, and internationally benchmarked assessments. DP students complete the Extended Essay, participate in Theory of Knowledge (TOK), and engage in Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) experiences. The DP is recognized worldwide for preparing students for university success.
