Fontana High School Theatre Production

After only a year and a half, the Fontana High School Theatre Production program has made a big impact on students. Erin McKevitt, Fontana High School Theater Teacher shares some of the accomplishments.

In December of 2019, Fontana High School obtained the highest score in an Inland Empire theater competition for the play “Proof.” Fontana High School achieved a top score along with two other schools from Orange County.  A total of sixty-seven schools competed in the competition. Fontana High School received an invitation to the 2020 CETA High School Theatre Festival. One of the requirements to participate in the festival, judges visited Fontana High School on three different occasions and judged the production on the following criteria: Acting, Directing, and Technical Elements.

Fontana High School was able to perform with the entire production team on January 18, 2020, at Fullerton Union High School.  During the 2020 CETA High School Theatre Festival, Fontana High School earned the award, “Best Main Stage Load-IN/Load-Out. The award was presented by the California Educational Theatre Association (CETA) for being efficient, knowledgeable with their tools, communication skills, and teamwork. Students uploaded and did a complete build of the set in less than two and a half hours (a record time).

The recognition that the Fontana High School Theater program received comes after only a year and a half after the CTE Theatre Program was adopted.  For many students, this was the first time they have participated in theater production and competition.
