Boys Basketball Wins CIF-SS DIV-5A Championship

In what can only be described as a fortuitous meeting of preparation and opportunity, Boys Basketball roared back to life. Buying into Head Coach Mel Wilkins and his staff's first full-year, the boys spent the season living their team motto "The Steel is Real." After 27 years, Steelers Men's Basketball brought another CIF-SS Title to the trophy case. After spending most of the year ranked #1 in their division, they ran roughshod through Skyline League play only dropping one league game. Their regular season record of 20-5 and League record of 7-1 earned them the #1 seed in the bracket. From there, they triumphed over Ojai Valley and Waverly at home. A tough test awaited on the road at John Glenn HS, but the Steelers held on to victory. Winning a semi-final at home vs. United Christian Academy earned a CIF-SS Final in our home gymnasium. A rocking atmosphere brought on by students, families, staff, alumni, and other members of the community propelled the Steelers to a 67-50 victory over Riverside Prep.

Not satisfied with a Section championship alone, the boys put forth a valiant run to the CIF Southern Regional Semi-Finals. They took down Northview and Harbor Teacher Prep Academy on the road. However, the party ground to a stop while hosting La Quinta/Westminister. It was a ride for the ages, led by our starters: Seniors Josh Okolugbo, Esteban "Big E" Perez, Sergio Avalos, and Eric Yilmaz along with Junior Salvador Cortez.
